Field Dive to Engage Technique

Goal here is to come out of nowhere and appear into a target rich environment screaming with E!

  1. Using a FW-190d9 (or similar) approach field at 15k.
    • Make sure to use a plane that can dive to 550 mph. Many can't.
  2. From half of dar ring out - dive at 45 degree angle to NOE.
    • If you dive steeper than 45 degrees for too long you will auger.
    • Use k if you have to so not to auger.
  • This will bring plane NOE over field at 550mph +\-.
  • Can climb to 10k [FW-190d9].
  • Dive Comments:
    • Make sure to start dive before your plane is seen as an icon.
    • At best you are seen as a dot...for just a moment.

Misc Plane Notes on Technique

  • You might have to dive from 3/4 of dar bar out not to be an icon.
Adjust as required per cons over field.
  • N1k can dive to 500 mph and climb to 6k.
  • C205 can dive to 540+ mph and climb to 5k+.
  • This can have the feature of getting those guys that complain you come in too high to be quiet! LOL

Range (icon)

Inside 1000 yards enemy icons display to the closest 200. An icon display of 400 could be an actual range of 300 to 499 yards.

BBS posts suggest when an icon shows 400 it is really closer to 300. SO setting convergence to and shooting at 300 is optimal in this context.

Turning

Optimal turning is in the direction of prop rotation\torque:

Turn RIGHT

 * Typhoon, Tempest, Spit14 and all Yaks.

Turn LEFT

 * All other planes.

Vehicle Ammo

   HE = For Buildings
   AP = For Tanks

Weight Factors (the lighter a plane is the better it performs)

  • Amount of fuel.
  • Gun load out and amount of ammo.

Miscellaneous

  • 12.7mm = 50 cal (as a generality in choosing guns)
  • Burn the FWD fuel 1st in 190a5 and it is very nimble. - Per Morefiend, it is also true that if you burn FWD fuel first it moves CoG backwards and while it may feel more nimble it's also unstable. AH models to
     correct fuel burn by default.
- Per AH, confirmed that if you burn FWD fuel first it moves CoG backward. Also, that this makes the nose lighter but less stable. This may be true for many
    other planes.
Ultimately try it yourself and see if you like the CoG backward.
  • B25 with 75mm = H
  • BF-109k Convergence = 400 (seems very good in testing - Vinkman suggested this to me)
  • Mount points that hold bomb and drop tanks slow your plane down 5 mph on many planes.
109 (when control services get hard)
Elevator up = K (use this to pull out of dive!)
      Elevator down = I
      Rudder left = J
      Rudder right = L
      Aileron left = M
Aileron right = , (comma key)

P-51d-lite (optimized for turn fighting)

  • 4 x 50cals
  • 1\4 fuel
  • Convergence 275.
  • Throttle back until at target (6-10k alt) so arrive light as possible.

Findings

  • P-51d standard layout (6 x 50cals and 1\2 fuel) weight: 9342 pounds.
  • P-51d lite:
    • Take off weight: 8968 pounds.
    • Weight when arriving at target (1 sector away): 8500 pounds. 842 pounds less!

P-51b Comparison

  • Speed: 353 (P-51d = 362)
  • Climb: 3.3 (P-51d = 3.4)
  • Engine: Allison (P-51d = Merlin)
  • P-51d has better acceleration.
  • P-51b standard layout weight: 9036 pounds.
  • P-51b lite:
    • Take-off weight: 8632
    • Weight when arriving at target (1 sector away): 8457 pounds.

Note: P-51b, 3800rpms in level flight = 310 +\- mph.

P-47 Weight Comparisons

  • 50% fuel.
  • Smallest gun pkg with 8 x 50 calls.
